Welcome to The Alderman, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of New York City, specifically at 150A W 48th St—just a stone's throw from the iconic Times Square. You can reach them at +1 929-566-5280 for reservations or inquiries, and I highly recommend you do!
At The Alderman, sophistication meets comfort, offering a menu teeming with irresistible options. Begin your meal with the delightful Wedge Salad or the more decadent Chorizo Arancini, both of which have garnered rave reviews from satisfied diners. One standout feature is the restaurant's strategically curated pre-theatre menu, designed to whisk you away to a world of flavor before your Broadway experience. Customer favorites include the star-studded Smash Burger and the palatable Veal Bolognese Lasagna, each offering a sumptuous experience that attendees are unlikely to forget.
The ambiance invites conversation without overwhelming noise, bridging the gap between casual dining and an upscale eatery. Patrons extol the exceptional service, with staff described as attentive and knowledgeable—ensuring your culinary journey is as delightful as the food itself. You might find yourself mesmerized by the charm of the intimate setting, where every detail—from the ambiance to the vibrant drinks menu—compliments the exquisite food.
Don't miss out on the fresh rolls with whole roasted garlic cloves—an irresistible starter that can turn any meal into a battle for the last morsel, according to enthusiastic diners. Meanwhile, cocktail lovers will have plenty to celebrate with options that cater to all preferences, including delightful non-alcoholic concoctions like the Jasmine Southside. This makes The Alderman the ideal spot for a pre-show snack or a full dining experience.
In the words of satisfied guests, The Alderman transcends the typical “hotel restaurant” stereotype, offering an authentic NYC dining experience that can hold its own against the city's finest. With an innovative menu, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere, it's no surprise that this establishment has become a favorite dining spot for many—a place where culinary dreams weaved with the magic of theatre come to life.
“ The staff was really busting it. The wedge salad and smash burger were stars but we also really enjoyed splurging on the theater menu. The only disappointment was the herb and Cobb salad. Felt both to be very salty for our taste but everything else was superb. Cocktails were made well and the standard drip coffee in the morning was also high quality. Also loved they had local beer to offer. Would stay at Motto again just to have access to this restaurant. Can’t speak to standard breakfast but everyone said the sandwich is great. ”
“ I've eaten here twice before shows, and it does not disappoint. Though technically a hotel restaurant, it dines like a full NYC sit-down. Don't be misled by the reviewers who did not make it past the lobby bar; the food and service within the actual restaurant are worthwhile. ”
“ Don't let the "hotel restaurant" connection discourage you: The Alderman has excellent food and stellar service, and has become one of our favorite NYC dining spots! It's conveniently located near Times Square and has a pre-theatre menu designed to accommodate Broadway showgoers, so it's perfect for when we want something a little more upscale than the usual pizza/bowl/burger before an evening out. The theatre menu is a 45 (as of my last visit) set that includes starters for the table, an appetizer, entree, and ice cream for dessert. The drink menu offers the usual selection of wines and liquors, as well as a variety of appealing cocktails (including -- especially? -- non-alcoholic ones; my personal favorite is the Jasmine Southside). All the food I've tried here has been good, though admittedly I always order off the theatre menu, so I haven't tried most of the regular dinner offerings. And I cannot say enough good things about the waitstaff! They are always engaging and attentive. I've never had bad service here. The restaurant atmosphere is nice, if a little dim at dinner time (some of my group had to use their phone flashlights to read the fine menu print). It's not exactly a quiet place, but it's not nearly as deafening as most of the pubs in the area. It's possible to have a conversation without shouting across the table. If you are a bread or garlic lover, you MUST try the fresh rolls with whole roasted garlic cloves. They're one of the included starters on the theatre menu, and my group always fights over who gets to eat the last one. :) ”
“ Stopped in for a quick happy hour drink and a bite before a Broadway show. Sat at the bar and was treated to exceptional service from Gersi and Mia. The two were excellent bartenders and worked well with each other. Drinks were amazing and the food was wonderful! Will definitely be back. ”
“ The service was incredible! I ordered a Breakfast Sandwich, it was delicious, the portion is perfect so you don't get too full or want more. My server Carolina was very attentive to every detail, she has extensive knowledge of the menu and made an excellent recommendation. At first I wasn't going to stay for lunch but she convinced me that it wouldn't take long and that I could enjoy my breakfast. I accompanied it with a double espresso and I loved it. ”
“ Food was tiny for the price but tasted okay. Above average fries, the fried mushroom starter was underwhelming though highly recommended. The smoked duck was a treat. The real star of this place is the chubby server who worked night of May 30th and gave my friend a birthday dessert. For him five stars . ”
“ When I visited the city, my son, who lives in NY, chose The Alderman for dinner, and we loved it. It’s a hotel restaurant, but quite honestly, don’t get deceived by that fact. This place can hold its own against many other restaurants in the area. Our server was amazing. He recommended some dishes and dessert and was always attentive and around. We really liked everything we ordered, but the highlight definitely was the plate of warm cookies. Leave room for it. ”
“ I love that the plac, I sat in the hotel lounge, the chairs were very comfortable. I enjoyed a delicious steak and eggs with pineapple juice. Carolina was my server and she treated me with great kindness and good energy. In general, the place feels like it has an excellent atmosphere. ”
